About Alexia
Hi Iām Alexia (they/them), a third-generation settler from the Eastern Aegean islands of Samos and Lesvos, living on the unceded and sacred Wurundjeri lands of the Kulin nation.
I am a social worker, somatic therapist, groups facilitator and yoga teacher and have spent over 10 years working in the community services sector, alongside survivors of systemic marginalisation and violence. I have an interest in working alongside displaced peoples, young people, people who experience complex and/or relational trauma, survivors of family and gender-based violence, neurodivergent people and queer/ LGBTQIA+ people.
Through my training, professional and personal work, I have a deep understanding of the ways in which trauma, emotions, experiences and story are held in the body. My approach to counselling and therapy is therefore embodied and incorporates somatic practices to support personal integration. My work is informed by recent neuroscience research focusing on nervous-system regulation, trauma and attachment theory.
I also provide individual supervision to social workers and youth workers, approaching this practice from a critical social work, anti-oppressive, decolonial and systems-based lens, incorporating somatics and body-based practices to reduce symptoms and experiences of stress and burn out.
I strongly believe that the benefits of wellbeing practices extend beyond the individual. I am interested in how therapeutic tools can be harnessed to support sustained action crucial to dismantling harmful systems, and creating communities of care and connection.
